Hans  Mark John Barnard Hankey (1905-1999)

Hans was born on 17 Aug 1905, the only child of George and Olive Barnard Hankey. He was educated at Eton and served in the Royal Navy during the second world war.

He had also been in the SOE and was much involved in France. He was a keen skier and was active in the Ski Club of Great Britain. He married Hazel Hamilton in 1928 and they had a son Michael George Barnard (1929-2008), and a daughter Jennifer (b 1932). He was married to Sheila Bailey in 1947 and later to Eileen Smith (1927-2017).

In 1952 Hans bought Plush Manor in Dorset. He sat on an RHS committee, and raised new daffodils apparently named Tessa and Una after girlfriends.

He later moved to Mauld, Struy, near Inverness and died  on 11 Dec 1999.
