Son of Robert Hanky, born c.1582. Gentleman, of Darnhall, Over.
Husband of Margaret Wilkinson of Over; father of five sons, including Thomas Hankey and Captain Samuel Hankey, and five daughters.
He died in 1657 and was buried on 21 Dec at Over.
An Alderman Hankey, presumably Sir Henry or Sir Joseph, enquired of an official in Chester whether any of the family still lived in Chester, and received the reply that he was honoured to receive a letter from so important a person, but ‘fears that ye kinsmen be all lost in the wars’ i.e. the Civil War.
