Lady Jane Isabella East nee Hankey (1763-1844)

 

Third surviving daughter of Joseph Chaplin Hankey, Jane Isabella was baptised on 25 Oct 1763 at St Katherine Colman.

She was married on 23 Dec 1786 at St Dionis Backchurch to Edward, later Sir Edward Hyde East, Bt, MP,PC,FRS (1764-1847).

A distinguished lawyer, he was chief justice of the supreme court at Fort William, Bengal from 1813 to 1823 (see DNB).

Their son Sir James Buller East, Bt, MP lived at Bourton House, Bourton on the Hill, where a number of Hankey family portraits were formerly kept.

Lady East died on 27 Jan 1844 and Sir Edward on 8 Jan 1847 at his residence, Sherwood House, Battersea.
