1700-1733

Second surviving son of Sir Henry Hankey; born on 7 Aug 1700 and baptised on 16 Aug at St Dionis Backchurch. Educated at Merchant Taylors’ School 1708/9-1716, he was apprenticed in 1717 to George Lewen, MP, citizen and merchant, for the enormous premium of £600 (George Lewen’s uncle Sir William Lewen was lord mayor in that year).

Henry died unmarried and was buried on 15 Apr 1733 at St Dionis Backchurch.

Two months after Henry’s death, his brother Thomas married Sarah Barnard, whose late aunt was George Lewen’s wife Bethia nee Godschall (d 1719).
