Norman became a tea planter in Ceylon. Later he became managing director of Pentrebrach Colliery, Merthyr Tydfil, and bought the colliery from the receivers, Lloyds Bank. He “went broke” in the general strike, but survived because he kept his personal and business money separate. He had been Mayor of Merthyr 1916-18. He moved from Pentrebrach to Abergavenny, where he lived at The Knoll. He died on 12 Jan 1935 at Abergavenny and was buried at Llanwenarth Church.
