Elizabeth (Bessie) was born at Fenchurch Street on 28 Nov 1807, the second daughter of William Alers Hankey. The 1881 census shows Elizabeth living at Oakhurst, Upper Norwood with her younger widowed sister Sarah and a staff of six. Elizabeth gave her age then as 65, rather than 74.
The sisters moved not long afterwards to Westbury, Grassington Road, Eastbourne. Sarah died there on 25 Jul 1887, and Elizabeth on 9 Dec 1888.
