Veronica Vronwy Alers Hankey was born on 2 May 1957.1 She is the daughter of Hon. Henry Arthur Alers Hankey and Vronwy Mary Fisher.

She married S/Ldr. Timothy C. M. Newman, son of W/Cdr. A. T. Newman, in 1980.

From 1980, her married name became Newman. She lived in 2003 at Wester Golford, Moyness, Nairnshire, Scotland
