Only child of Nigel and Joan Alers Hankey, Robin was born on 23 Jul 1936 at Winchester. Educated at The Old Malt House School and Winchester College. Of Whingarth, Shedfield. He was married on 20 Mar 1964 at St Michaels, Chester Square to Christine, daughter of Major General Douglas Darling, by whom he had two sons:
-Rupert Robin (see below)
-Dominic Guy (see below)
A Major in the Rifle Brigade, Robin died on 30 Jan 1972 of wounds received in Northern Ireland.
